The Margaret Lantis papers consist of correspondence written between 1946 and 1963 concerning Lantis's anthropological interests in the Yupik and Inupiaq people of Alaska. The bulk of the letters were written by Lantis, serving in a professional capacity, to the Area Director of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). There is also a folder of correspondence regarding Project Chariot, with Lantis expressing her concern about the impact of the project on the Inupiat of Point Hope. Other papers in the collection include Lantis's curriculum vitae, lists of her publications and of U.S. Indian Service schools in Alaska, and a folder of reprints. The colleciton also includes 197 slides depicting people, buildings, and activities in Mekoryuk, Alaska.
